How does our society value a human life? How about you?
What I’m Worth is a new performance installation about money, people and value. Gameshow represents the price of sustaining a single human life for a year, using 100,000 tiddlywinks. Piles of plastic counters are used to create scale models of the money spent. Such large sums made so vibrant and visible reveal stark comparisons and uncomfortable truths.
How much is spent each year on a cancer patient? How much on a prisoner? How much on your child’s clothes?
What I’m Worth: An attempt to make the abstract feel vivid and tangible / Asking questions of the shadier market forces that drive our economy / Two men shovelling tiddlywinks for hours on end.
Please note, this event takes place in our basement space and is regrettably not wheelchair accessible.
About the company
Gameshow is run by Matt Ryan and Matthew Evans. We have created theatre and performance projects together since 2008. Our work ranges from participatory projects and classic plays to new writing and performance installations. We won the People’s Theatre Award for Grown Up, which sold out at CPT in 2016. We are currently touring our latest stage show Dancing Bear, Dancing Bear.
