Presented by The Mayers Ensemble
Throughout Pauline’s life, people have made assumptions about her based on her gender, background and race. She’s defied these expectations at every turn, tearing up the narrative that society tried to impose on her.
Now, Pauline is finally ready to tell the world her story.
Carefully balancing dance and theatre, What If I Told You? immerses us in Pauline’s world as she invites us to pause, breathe and reconsider the stories we tell about our past and the history on which we build our futures.
Please note: each show will be followed by a special post-show discussion with invited guests, which will last for one hour.

About the company
The Mayers Ensemble is led by Pauline Mayers, who creates inter-disciplinary shows that exist at the meeting point of dance and theatre. Originally from London, Pauline began her theatre and dance training at the Weekend Arts College and continued on to the Rambert School in London. Since graduating in 1991 she has danced with and taught for contemporary dance companies and choreographers across the UK including Janet Smith & Dancers (London), Diversions Dance (Cardiff), Phoenix Dance Company (Leeds) and The Ensemble Group (Edinburgh), touring both nationally and internationally.
In recent years she has been exploring work in a theatre-based context as a movement director and choreographer, for productions including Red Ladder Theatre’s critically acclaimed Promised Land at The Carriageworks, Leeds. As an Associate Artist of Chris Goode and Company, Pauline has choreographed and appeared in several productions, including most recently 9, Wanted and The Albermarle Sketchbook (West Yorkshire Playhouse) and Open House (MayFest, Bristol). She was also lead artist on Burmantoffs Stories (West Yorkshire Playhouse) in 2014.
