I am a genius.
I am a visionary. A renegade. An innovator.
I demand perfection. I expect the best.
I will make something the likes of which the world has never seen. And if I fail, I will simply do it all again.
One Shot is a new work-in-progress combining live performance with digital film, taking inspiration from the work of auteur film-maker Stanley Kubrick.
Traveling across genres and historical contexts, One Shot pits two bodies against recorded images in a battle for creative control. It examines the gender and class politics of artistic risk, challenging and re-framing implicit standards of success, permission, and autonomy. In a space between the physical and the digital, it asks what it means to take creative risks in a society where most are only granted one shot.
About the company
Emma and PJ are an international performance duo based in East London. They work at the intersection of the personal and the political, collaborating across multiple genres and forms. They are interested in the complexity of simple images, playing with context and scale to create epic, operatic stories out of the absurd, the intimate, and the everyday. At the heart of everything they make lies the desire to create playful spaces charged with compassion, precariousness, and possibility.
