Female sexuality and contemporary Christianity: are they as uncomfortable bedfellows as they appear to be?
Beside Ourselves Collective’s first devised production, Just Don’t Do It, is a surreal journey into the modern Church’s approach to sex, celibacy and female sexual desire. Join two clowns as they investigate what happens when we don’t act on our physical impulses or when we idolise virginity. From the American Abstinence Movement to Anglican embarrassment, no creed will be left unturned!
Fusing clown with acrobatics and singing vagina puppets, this debut show delves into the confusing, the painful and the funny in asking: is ‘Just Don’t Do It’ the sum of what the Church has to say about pre-marital sex?
CPT welcomes back a show that was originally scratched at our ‘Hotbed’ festival in spring 2017.
About the company
Beside Ourselves Collective is a new devised theatre collaboration between Fourth Monkey graduate Eleanor Young and LISPA-trained Kate Mounce. We explore themes of faith and embodiment through the medium of clown, mythological archetypes and puppet cabaret. Our work is on the hunt for new theatrical forms and ways of staging the internal epic journey.
