“My meeting with J, (all praise him), went very, very well. I am able to feed my family with fresh veg and good meats. The car that I am driving is also in the latest style and my closet is full of desirables. I am happy.”
Meet George. George has been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet with the mysterious J. He says goodbye to his mother, packs his bag, gets a haircut and sets off for the big city.
This surrealist, pitch-black piece of physical theatre is an insight into the ways the millennial generation deals with the side effects of ambition. We are more comfortable yet more insecure than we’ve ever been. We watch on-demand TV on leather sofas in freezing houses that we can’t afford. We hop from interview to placement to prestigious unpaid opportunity like we’re in competition with everyone in the world.
As George leaves his home and makes his way through the city, Contingency Theatre’s visually stunning choreography and live music transports the audience into a dystopia that feels all too familiar…
Supported by Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre.
About the company
Contingency was founded by graduates of East 15, with the aim of making choreographically complex work with the foundation of a strong narrative, and to bring high-quality physical theatre into the mainstream. George is our first full-length show.
