Presented by UCL Roaming Garage Theatre Workshop and UCL Singapore Society
UCLSS Annual Theatre Production is back and this time we are producing the play FUGITIVES, written by Singaporean playwright, Alfian Sa’at!
Written back in 2007 but still very much pertinent today, Fugitives is a play which explores issues of race, religion, sexuality, and materialism in Singapore. Told through the eyes of members of a Chinese family, it looks unreservedly at how the mould of a traditional Chinese family crumbles when they are forced to confront these issues due to various characters ‘intruding’ into the family.
About the company
The Roaming Garage Theatre Workshop is a theatre company which functions as part of the Student Union UCL Stage Crew Society (herein Stage Crew). Before the opening of the UCL Bartlett School of Architecture in 2016, The Garage occupied a space on its site on Taviton Street until 2014. Here, The Garage Theatre was home to fringe productions, autonomously produced by societies of the Students’ Union UCL, alongside Stage Crew. As of then, the Garage has continued to produce shows in studio spaces in and around the UCL Bloomsbury campus, since termed the Roaming Garage Theatre Workshop.
UCL Singapore Society is an active society that aims to bring Singaporean students studying in UCL together. Each year, the annual production serves as a platform for us to share a piece of Singaporean theatre.
