  1. Manchester. A euphoric frenzy of drugs, beats and bucket hats.

Do you remember it? Because we don’t. We weren’t even born.

But Ian was. And Ian does remember.

We have his stories. We have his records. We have his permission.

Let’s party.

Ian is a 46-year-old Mancunian, a former DJ, VJ and a painter and decorator by trade. Last year, Ian asked us to make a show about his life. We’re girls. We’re in our twenties. We make shows. We don’t have much in common with Ian. But his stories of being our age during Manchester’s late 80s/early 90s Acid House scene resonated. Ian’s stories hark back to a time when we weren’t even a twinkle; a blurry haze of drugs, hypnotic beats and bouncing around like an idiot (as Ian would say)… It was a whole new community united by one want: FUN. A massive, multi-coloured antidote to the grey, drudgery of the Thatcher years. It was a huge movement, and Ian was at the heart of it.

We’ve got fuck all now… (again, Ian’s words, not ours). But it’s kind of true. It seems like the grey is back, but there’s no movement. So, we’re going back to 1989 and we’re taking the audience with us. We won’t talk, though. We’ll let Ian do the story telling – and taking his word as gospel, we’ll attempt to recreate the euphoria and excitement of the illegal raves; using Ian’s favourite, big soulful House tunes to score the story. Like a new religion, and Ian is our God. We’ll dance. We’ll drink beer. And we’ll escape 2016 for an hour…

Part of Sprint Festival 2016: London’s biggest and best festival of the newest, most adventurous theatre from across the UK and beyond.

Catch We are Ian in a double bill with Denmarked on the same evening. Two shows for just £16!

About the Company

In Bed With My Brother are Nora, Dora and Kat; three best friends making performance in the South West. Clashing real-life with big sparkling spectacle, the ladies create messy, multimedia madness which punches audiences into a state of incessant ecstasy… (no refunds).
