In Fallen Fruit, as the Berlin Wall splits open in 1989, a girl looks forward to life beyond communism, a couple unravels, and 80s TV permeates everything. In 2019, Britain leaves the EU while Europe celebrates 30 years since the end of the Cold War.
A story of love, breaking free and Europe, from multi-award-winning Two Destination Language, Fallen Fruit foregrounds a unique migrant voice born in communist Bulgaria.
“A gem of a small-scale show, coming from a truthful place and putting into sharp perspective the issues of borders. The design is beautiful and Katherina Radeva is exceptional.” – Sarah Brigham
About the Company
Visually stunning, their work deals with identity, cultural boundaries and belonging. Alister’s Scottish heritage and Katherina’s Bulgarian background led to this interest in how cultures interact, develop and are defined. Often working from biographical starting points, they create emotionally and intellectually stimulating experiences relevant to contemporary society. Theatre changes people. It makes us think, talk, reconsider. The company’s work has liveness at its core, and includes installations, intimate performances, community engagement projects as well as performances for stages. The company tours extensively in the UK and internationally, reaching over 11,000 people in the last year.
