Another chance to catch Chris Goode’s controversial verbatim/documentary piece, charting the rise and fall of the guest book at Hippo World, a real web site (now defunct) for hippopotamus enthusiasts. Beginning in innocence and optimism, passing through dissent and abuse, and arriving finally in the weird, almost transcendental realm of automated spam, the all-too-familiar story of this unmoderated guest book is a tragedy for our times. Outrageously funny, alarming and ultimately deeply poignant, Hippo World Guest Book was shortlisted for the 2007 Total Theatre Award for Experimentation, and features a recorded introduction by the late Oliver Postgate.
